What has happened to the world? We’ve become a group of shallow, faceless blobs that engulf ourselves in mindless and meaningless frivolities. The value of things in the world has quickly fallen that now the worth of a human being is almost equal to the pleasure that one gets from surfing the web. Like right now? What are you doing? What am I doing? I’m writing a blog about how life is related to my English class when I could be spending it out with my friends and family, making an impact in the world. And you? You’re probably just sitting at your computer, eating a bag of potato chips, looking for something to waste the time away. Do you really just want to end up like some bumbling hobo, who sits on the beach steps with nothing to life?

What is the meaning of life?

Really?

What is it?

Does anyone know?

Dictionary.com says that life is… the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms.

But really… is that true? Because there some people who may be alive, but they might as well be dead. They’ve got nothing to leave, and nothing to live for. If they died the next day, there might be a month of mourning and after that, after 10 years, after 100 years, they will be gone and forgotten. Just like that. Just like they were never alive to begin with. People are so quick to forget now. The words “love” and “care” have become so commonplace that people just take those words for granted. One may say, “I care about you,” one day, and the next day, they forget what they ever said and treat you like any other other person. So much more people say, “I LOVE FOOD!” Yet how many times have you seen wasted platters of food left on the table, or half-eaten apples. Most of the waste in the trashcan is moldy food that no one wanted to eat. Life has become so carefree and careless. And with that, the meaning to living has quickly diminished too until everything has become so uniform, that stereotypes and generalities are what define us now.

yolo_logoLife is pretty simple. YOLO. (You Only Live Once.) I know that YOLO is so mainstream and overused but it’s true. Not in the sense like, “oh let’s go bungee jumping with shoelaces because it’s a one in a lifetime chance,” but more as “let’s try to make the best of our life because we don’t know when we’re going to die.” People these days think that life is infinite. They think the next day is guaranteed and that they’ll probably die in 40-50 years. But WHO KNOWS? A meteor could fall out and hit the earth at any moment and we would be like the dinosaurs. Extinct. What if the world did end on 12/21/12? Then everyone would have been halfway through their boring daily routines and suddenly died. No one would be able to finish their bucket list, or even just go to the ice cream shop.

People need to go out and make a difference in the world. Make a use of their life. Instead of saving up money to buy a dress, to impress a guy that you probably won’t ever end up with, donate that money to charity so that a child in need can eat for one more day. Because for some reason it seems like the third-world countries or the people in need tend to make more use of their life than people living in luxury in Europe to America. Maybe its that mindset that they want to make their life worth living, because they don’t know when it’s going to be taken away and they know that they might impact the world some day. Unlike the first world problems, most of which stem from complete laziness.

If people don’t start getting off the couch and experience the true meaning of living and being alive, in a matter of years we are going to be like the people in Wall-E. We’re going to be so fat that we’ll need space chairs to handle all our basic cares Soon, we won’t even know what a pool is and the old thrill of jumping into a pool on a hot day or how it feels to get an adrenaline rush after working out hard because we’ll be too fat and lazy to even walk. Eventually, our bones will deteriorate and all of humankind will become gelatin-like blobs. Similar to jello. Hence the saying, “You are what you eat.” So watch out world. Man doesn’t need a meteor to kill us, we’re already sentencing ourselves to a life of death.

Or… maybe you’ll be that person to make a difference to the world. Just ask yourself what you’ve done with your life and what you ARE doing with your life. Don’t just think short-term goals, go the distance… look beyond the meadows of cheap indulgences to the eternal fields of happiness.

So now maybe you’re wondering, “what would happen if I died tomorrow?” And if you’re not satisfied with your answer, do something to change it. Don’t just leave things open-ended. Be like Wall-E! An inanimate object who gave meaning to his life and changed the world.
